Title: Hello from O's Talk
BedardGuthrieDuo - July 31, 2007 02:55 AM (GMT)
Hello, I'm currently the owner of Orioles Talk, don't worry I don't plan on spamming the forum to steal members.
I've just created, but not opened - a new Orioles forum. I already have a co-admin who will help me, who is a really intelligent O's fan. I plan on opening the place in a week.
It's currently set on InvisionPower Boards, one step upgraded from InvisionFree boards and I was wondering, if our Orioles Talk and The Birds of Prey could merge.
It wouldn't even really be merging, if the admin wants to, we could rename it to "The Birds of Prey" and just move you guys here. Staff spots here would be applied there same as ever. The admin here would be the owner of the site with me.
It'll really be an upgrade for this forum, since my co-admin and I will be recruiting endless O's fans to the forums, and the skin is really brilliant.. which took me about one whole day to make.
Here is the link:
http://oriolestalkforums.ipbfree.com/index.php?
Let me know what you guys think. We both will benefit very much if we decide to work together.
BedardGuthrieDuo - July 31, 2007 03:16 AM (GMT)
oh, and by the way.. the co-admin is OriolesManiac88, and he told me that he used to post at the original version of this site. He, too is looking forward to working with you guys. He said he'd be delighted.. What do you TBOP guys think?
We'll also have an MLB Simulation League when our forum gets bigger.
OriolesManiac88 - July 31, 2007 03:53 AM (GMT)
Yea, I was never a big poster, but always read the board every day. Wasn't this the home of the "Mornin' Crew"? I believe you guys were at another site before Birds of Prey, and after the mlb forums. Thats how I stumbled upon it.

You can't.
Far too many threads.
Baltimore Orioles, Rest of the Majors Discussion, Rumor Hill, Oriole Prospects,The Real World, (Our world)
Graphics, Game Day, Front Office and Site Feedback, we do it all right here.
We like it like that. Threads don't get moved around by bored admins
and there is no such thing as off topic here.

I know we can't, but there's plenty of people who does it in other IPB or IF boards. We are guaranteeing you that we will not.
and that's what I found unusual here also, you guys have too few "threads". If you happen to take a look at other IPB boards like
this one, you'll see far more threads than we have right now, and we call those "forums". But thanks for your comment.

Yes that is us. It started on the mlb board then moved to an Invision site, forgot the name but
they added more and more rules. We had 10x the amount of posts as the other 29 teams combined. So they started
moving our posts and threads. We left there.
Here we talk about what we want, when we want, where we want, and with an unwritten level of respect, how we want.

When you put it that way, I realize how vagabond we really have been.
I am just starting to get comfortable here... Do we have to move again? I guess I am struggling to see the point of changing things around here. D~ has always been really open to suggestions and this is a very welcoming community. So welcome! but I like it here as it is.

Yea, I do remember you guys then. I use to always read what you guys would say on the MLB boards, then ended up on the same invision board with you. I think Nick was the admin at that board.
Wasn't there someone named Jack that was part of the Mornin Crew? And I definately remember Milto and Puma. Those were fun times.

Does'nt matter what you call them, there are still too many. As far as other boards having more or less...
whatever, that is why we are here. Even if I had time, not sure I'd want to
search through forty forums and um-teen threads to see what a friend has to add.
You may or may not find things here are handled in a reprehensible manner, don't know or care.
Being O's fans was our original common bond. Many relationships have emerged from that.
In "The Forum" various subjects spin off of O's topics, everything from Iraq to iTunes,
A.Rod to Zeppelin, Beriberi to Halle Berry to Barry Bonds, and 007. We even have had
some graphics threads like you guys intend except ours may venture from Jay Gibbons to
Quasimodo, to JLo.
We can boast among our members we have lawyers, writers, actors, teenagers to the retired,
military, secretaries, and contrarians.
D has been a wonder admin. She opts to mete out her time between O's and Baysox games
and helping the homeless instead of policing the board. As far as I know she has no mods
but she does have help in other ways, more important ways. I call them RA's or resident assistants.
Escambia monitors the minors for us quite thoroughly. Hal keeps us up on all prospects but the "thread"
might get Frank and Brooks, Buford, Blair, Belanger, and Boog's Barb-B-Que mixed in with Reimold, Rowell,
Snyder, Liz,"The Kid", Hayden Penn and Spicoli, (eating some BBQ and learning about the Orioles of course).
Puma in particular, I believe broadcasts but certainly reports on the IronBirds. Andrew helps keep us inside legal lines
on copy right laws and other legal matters we have been faced or threatened with
and provides with a left-coast view.
Dan has a brother involved with professional baseball and provides an inside out angle from time to time
which only compliments his own unique prospective.
Calley is in Bagdad and lets us know how long we have to live, and Omar in Venezuela
is an abosolute wizard when it comes to pitchers and has a bead on that country's baseball events.
Dog Will Hunt (Baghead), Jack, Bark, Jay, myself, and Stanhouse try to add a twist of humor.
There is no way to mention everyone and their contributions but they are immense, and special.
All derived from the passion they share (in one forum) as an O's fan.
I am perfectly happy here. I can't speak for everyone (other than once in a while)but
I doubt you will find many Lemmings ready to leap off an Invision cliff to be greeted by admins and mods
who spend their time pondering the apropos placement of posts or closing down ones in which they do not concur.
This is up to D, completely. I know she likes to dabble with stocks but doubt she is interested in
any merger acquisitions.

...and special mention goes out to MetallicRageX, bd0493, HotTubMan ProjectMayhemRidesAgain, JJ, Justin, V,
skinsfan13, and Greg,
How the hell could I not mention the one and only Scuff and the game threads I'll never know.
This place is great!

i drafted a reply yesterday and then sat on it.
it's so cool to read the views of the guys here and realize they see it the way i do.
i don't think we have any real need to merge with you guys. i can't (and wouldn't ever) stop anyone on here from going and joining your board. why not? there may be plenty who would prefer a different nature of discussion, or more posters, or having threads well-organized into several separate forums.
but we just had another recent round of "what should we do to fix BoP," and if you read that thread (now in "History of BoP") i think you'll find that the consensus was that the people who are posting here like it the way it is.
and even since then, a few of the quieter members have posted a time or two. which is always cool.
so i think i'll have to decline your offer to "join forces" for now. i enjoy having your new posts, and by all means mention your board now and then so that those who would feel better going there will know about it. God knows i'm not making any money on this thing, not gaining any notoriety, have no delusions of grandeur (they get squelched rather quickly when i start leaning that way, thank heavens ;) ).
i just want the people who have been part of this group for some time now to continue to have a place to be part of this group. that was my sole intent of creating it when Ben's board died, and my sole reason for continuing to try to keep it up, simple as it may be (yes, Milt, on my own, just me).
good luck to you with your new board!
~d.

Not to be nitpicky, but did you leave anyone out? :P
