It is worse to use a derogatory description in private with a number of your work associates when you are not using it to derogate the people formerly described by that word (especially if you are a Democrat), even if you apologize, than if you use the same word in public on a radio show you broadcast worldwide when you are specifically calling people the derogatory word (if you are a Republican), and you don't apologize but justify using the word.
