Title: Pitching Rotation Photos

stanhouse - March 10, 2010 02:53 PM (GMT)
One of my favorite "stock" baseball photos is of a group of pitchers, right and left handers, holding the ball out to pose for the camera. I was reminded of this coming across a spring training photo on the Sun's website:

(Edit: The photo referenced is image #9. The link won't go directly there.)[B]

What a magnificent collection. Some of them need to work on their game faces. I don't recall any of them but some of our more experienced posters might. One has to wonder whether the lack of confidence portrayed in their puzzled looks translated to the mound ("Is this what the photographer wants?" "Is this how I'm supposed to do it?").

Perhaps it is better to be a little cocky like these fellows? They could wear anything and win: http://cdn.faniq.com/images/blog/38ab57109...9360b05ad4a.jpg

Here's an ice-cold variation on the photo. Nice two-seam grip on that can Wally! (Can any hopheads out there identify the brews in question?)

Admittedly, this arrangement of the Braves' famous starters seems a bit much: http://assets.espn.go.com/i/eticket/200709...staff02_310.jpg

I don't know when the tradition of this type of posed photo began, but it is likely very old. More likely than not, surviving photos of the type will be noteworthy rotations (as the '71 O's and the '90s Braves above).

Thanks for the photos Stanhouse.

The beer is National Premium and they are holding it to show off the label of this late and unlamented brew.

Thanks for the ID on the beverage, Jack.

Here's a lineup of our young pitching prospects from last spring:

The composition (at the edge of the dugout) is different. I think it's unfair to have David Hernandez at the back of the line peeping around to be seen while the injured Troy Patton is front and center. Then again, it was taken last year. Also, the identification of Arrieta and Hernandez is mixed up.
