Keep:
Nick Markakis
Matt Wieters
Adam Jones
Jake Arrietta
Chris Tillman
Brad Bergesen
David Hernandez
Felix Pie
Nolan Reimold
Brian Roberts if he comes back this season and does well enough for us to get something in return....no way he get's traded. He either gets well for September to show he can play next year or the Lords of London pay him off
Matt Angle...to replace Montanez
Goodbye
Scott Moore.....need better defensive guy to serve utility roll
Corey Patterson...fourth outfielder at best but Pie will take that job
Cesar Izturis ..we will trade for a shortstop with a better stick.
Montanez....not the hitter we hoped for. Make good AAAA for Norfolk
Trade:
Wigginton
Miguel Tejada....trade for sure if anyone even wants him
Ohman...if any buyers
Hendrickson...same as above
Jeremy Guthrie....still trade bait but could be 5th starter. Waiting to see whom pitches their way off the team.
Kick to the curb:
Atkins....just waive him...no value here
Starters Matusz
Arrietta
Britton
Tillman
Bergesen
Bullpen....Hernandez
Berken
Mickolio
Johnson if he not out next year also
Free agent for closer or Hernandez if he proves his worth the rest of the year.
Mata
Gonzalez
Simon
Even with this lineup we need two big bats, one on each corner of the infield and a shortstop that can hit til Machado is ready.

Atkins. The Crow just needs a bit more time to fix his swing. In the meantime, maybe we can figure out why he looks so concerned when batting.

I can't imagine anyone on the roster being untouchable.

I would trade anyone on the roster if the deal made sense…I just wouldn't shop everyone.
When you are playing .270 baseball no one is untouchable, some are just more touchable than others.

Agree with Jack on this one. I would trade pretty much anyone if the return was right. Six games in a row broadcast on TV here and the O's won only once...and barely at that. I may not be able to watch any more games this season at this rate.

That says it all for me. Probably the most sensible take there is and probably the mindset of every front office executive in every sport.
Like Jack suggests, there are a few guys who I think wouldn't be traded unless the deal was very much in the O's favor. Those would be those young outfielders and pitchers who this organization is depending so heavily on.

I think, hope, we all agree with the premise you take a "good deal". Though I could almost promise that some of the less touchables would get touched.
The O's have not had an offensive plan for a long time. The only maneuvers they have made in recent years that even remotely resembled a strategy was when a spot needed filling , to roll the dice on a bounce-back candidate or a former prospect that never panned out. More times than not it did not work even judging solely on a value basis. Then there is a deal like Ty Wiggington. In February 2009 they signed him to a two-year, 6 million contract. He is delivering a 6 million season this year. In all likelihood he will be gone after the season, if not sooner. They got great value but possess the worst record in baseball. So there you go. This pseudo-strategy of hit and miss-a-lot can not even account for a .500 season in over a decade. For the annually overly April-optimistic and resisters of reality, as myself, it does not work.
To go to the WS a team does not need flash of the past or a 30 year old’s breakout. There is no rule stipulating your shortstop has to carry a .300 average or your third baseman has to hit 35 HR’s. Obviously a series contender would need somebody on the team who can hit, the Orioles will too.
I would most definitely shop one of our three young starters, Matusz, Tillman, or Arrieta, and any of the others for that matter. It is reasonable to believe any of these three would yield a higher return value than the unmentioned. My problem is, I do not know that value. I am also not currently engaged enough to make sensible suggestions as to which teams will be needing what, or what players may become expendable for any reason. I am aware that the Orioles need a hitter. More specifically, a slugger. Would a package deal of Matusz/ Riemold or Scott attract any team enough to flip a Ethier, Morneau, Fielder, Wright, or a hitter in that category? Would it take a Matusz/Markakis or Roberts package? If nothing that stark could be accomplished, would Matusz alone get you a guy like Justin Upton? Without the faintest idea whether any of that is feasible, I would accept any similar trade involving a bat of that status. If not, I would take a shot at a Garrett Jones or Mark Reynolds-like guy. I would not even discuss players like Hunter, Wells, Konerko, Rollen, or Jose Guillen, or others getting in their last big splash. To quote Dan from another thread, “Is there anything more frustrating in baseball than talking about things in the theoretical and the potential? Probably not, and I will add to it. It is silly at best, and hinges on ridiculous. But, with grave reservation I have cut in on this dance anyway. Wieters plays first-base all winter and starts there in 2011, I cover second as if Robert's recovery never happens, shortstop with the best glove I can find, and bring a number one or two tier slugger to Spring Training next April minus a player or two I had rather left untouched.
