Title: Let's rate radio broadcasters

Jon Miller is my number one. Other Giants announcers are good, even if Krukow goes a bit homer on you.
The As guys are decent, but not spectacular. They are pretty well informed generally, but they did not know anything about the Orioles, as if anybody but us, Os organization people know, or the players mamas would know something about the team.
The Dodgers (Vin Scully) team was also decent.
Worst I have heard are the present white sox homers. Just awful.
I have listened to both the Red Sox and Yankees guys and was not impressed, but only one game cannot be enough of a sample, even if it reveals good or bad characteristics. They were just droning bores.
I have listened to perhaps 10 other announcer teams and was generally not impressed with them. I have a faint recall of a Royals broadcast and one of those guys was pretty good.
As mentioned a couple times, I have come around on Joe Angel and I like the guy. Funny, even when he gives up a groaner. He also does not overuse a couple of his little habits or lines. The You can wave it bye bye is a bit pedestrian, but he is pretty solid throughout his delivery. I think it is great he calls the Os on miscues, like when Arrieta walked Big Stick Moeller. . . .

I listen to Joe Angel whenever I get a chance. I like his commentary and his humor. Fred Manfra is mediocre, but still better than any of the TV guys.
Bob Uecker was/is the best in my humble opinion.
The Boston guys trash other teams and I expect that from fans, but at least display some sportsmanship in the booth. I think John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman are pretty bad considering they are covering the biggest fan base in baseball. I will say that Suzyn Waldman is 100 times better than Anita Marks. The only other ones I have heard are the Toronto guys and they were alright.
Jon Miller was great when he was here :(

Jon Miller will always be the best there is.
I like Angel and Manfra together in the booth. They work well together. Always entertaining.
I don't know their names, but the guys who call the Phillies games are pretty good.
Only other guys I have any real experience with is Joe Castiglione and the other guy who calls the Red Sox games. Complete homers and infuriating to listen to. Very befitting of the whole Red Sox culture.

I don't listen to much baseball on the radio anymore so I don't know too many of them. I do love Jon Miller, he is the crown jewel of baseball broadcasting. Interestingly, Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow I am only familiar with because of the game MVP 2005.
That said, I can't stand John Sterling and his home run catchphrase for every Yankee hitter. And his call when they win is horrible. Incredibly annoying.
Are the White Sox radio announcers as bad as their TV counterparts?

If I had to write a thesis on Orioles baseball, I would write on the theory that letting Jon Miller go was the beginning of the downfall of the whole O's organization.

The pair of guys that did the Angels radio broadcasts the last couple of years were great -- knowledgeable, unbiased, easy to listen to and learn from. I think it was Roy Markas and Terry Smith. I've heard a lot of broadcasters really trash the Orioles in a homerish fashion; these guys never did, tho we admittedly give other teams plenty of ammunition.
The Angels were going to shake everything up this year and have Markas move to TV broadcasting, but he died suddenly in January of a heart attack. That team sure is snakebitten when it comes to real-life health issues and tragedies.

Jon Miller was the best because of his mental agility, language skills, sense of humor and sense of the game, but there was something about listening to Chuck Thompson doing that stuff that is still irreplaceable to me.
Summer nights. "Ain't the beer cold!" And the Orioles winning more often than not.

1) Chuck Thompson
2) Jon Miller
3) Ernie Harwell
4) Vin Scully
tough acts to follow in any order...

I'd say Harry Kalas & Jon Miller.
Sterling & Waldman are hands down the worst.
