Customers don’t seem too crabby about this season’s steep seafood prices.
Crab prices have never been higher in Baltimore, and while some customers are willing to shell out $60, $70 or $80 for a dozen steamed crabs, many Marylanders might not be able to afford the state’s favorite seafood this season.
Rob Cernak, owner of Obrycki’s Crab House, said that’s why he has held off raising prices this season at his famed East Baltimore restaurant. He is charging $59 for a dozen large crabs, the same as last year.
“We feel that if you price yourself out of the market, then you’re not going to get any customers,” Cernak said.

I had heard this past spring that the crab population was rebounding in the Chesapeake, so I figured that might represent a decline in crab prices. Wrong.
Haven't been out for crabs yet this year, but it's good to know I'll need to work some overtime before I do.

My girlfriend and I will be in Baltimore next weekend, and we're stoked about getting our crab on. If I have to shell out a little more money, so be it.

I bought 1/2 a bushel (3.5 dozen) for $99 on Father's Day. That is $10 more than it was last father's day.
If they would leave the crabs alone for one year, there would be a ton more of them and lower prices for everyone. Of course that would put the crab fishermen out of work for a whole year and yadda yadda.

Evidently that won't be necessary, Bark.
I thought I had heard they were having a good year. Here's an article from April.

That is great news! Hopefully next year we will see $30 - $40 dozens again.

If you are going to Bunting Avenue in Fenwick from Rehoboth Beach (where a dozen crabs goes for $79, they were cheaper under Bush) in search of crabs and you turned left on E. Dagsboro then on to Bunting and drove south, toward Ocean City, you would think that Bunting Avenue ended at E. Atlantic at what looks like a parking area for beach access but which actually cleverly conceals another access to Bunting Avenue less than a throw to first from what looked like the end of Bunting Ave.
I didn't find any cheap crabs there nor did I find a friend's house which I was in search of. Embarrassing, no?
