The Orioles will place catcher Matt Wieters on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring. Wieters hasn't played since July 9.
He'll be able to eligible to return from the DL on July 25.
The Orioles haven't announced a corresponding move but it's expected that they'll start Craig Tatum at catcher, use Jake Fox as his primary backup and then call up a position player. Third baseman Josh Bell is one of the top candidates. |
Nothing about Craig Tatum excites me. Give Fox a little more catching duty and recall Bell.
Hopefully this is just what they say it is and he can get back on the 25th.
He needs to be in there getting his cuts and improve on a sub-par first half.

News: MLB.com reports that Orioles manager Juan Samuel expects C Matt Wieters to be activated from the disabled list after the minimum 15 days. Wieters was placed on the DL with a strained hamstring on Thursday. Because the move was made retroactive to July 10, he will be eligible to return from the disabled list on July 25.
